MEDWAY CHOSEN TO TRIAL ASSESSMENT & PLANNING REFORMS
Organisations representing education, health and social care across Medway are working in partnership with parents to develop innovations in the way that services are provided for children with special needs and disabilities.
The Government outlined its proposals for change in a Green Paper on special educational needs in 2011 & chose Pathfinders to trial new ways of working.
Medway has been chosen to work with 6 other south east areas (SE7) to be a Pathfinder to inform planned reforms to the way that disabled young people, those with learning difficulties and other special educational needs are assessed & provided with support.
We are designing the new processes which we aim to trial with some volunteer families from Summer term, 2012. We will be trying to find out if these new ways of working are better for families and young people and also what may need to change to enable most families to engage with the new processes.
Our findings aim to make a difference to families in Medway but will also inform Government thinking and may be reflected in future legislation.
